New member welcome to come along (book a place first) and try out!

Our children's classes are designed to give a thorough introduction to the sport of fencing....but also provide a broad physical education aimed at improving coordination, agility, balance, strength, flexibility and fitness, core skills for ALL sports including fencing.

We hope to inspire a life-long love of our sport, and to introduce children into the social as well as the competitive world of fencing, where we know from experience that some will make lifelong friendships while others will take the first steps towards becoming champions of the future.

Key to learning any martial art is discipline and understanding the need to practice to improve skill; we hope children will enjoy the challenge of learning the sport, and take pleasure in their own achievements and improvements rather than their success in combat.

This reflects the philosophy of the club:  Fencing is a highly skilled and complex sport which is learnt over many years to reach the highest levels in the sport.  We believe in putting down strong foundations and inspiring a love of learning, rather than trying to train 11 year-old champions.

My child isn't sporty?

Children who aren't drawn to team events can really take to fencing, and those who don't shine at other sports but may be quite academic can really enjoy fencing too.  It's a technical and tactical sport which can appeal to children who may be less outgoing in other areas.  We also have quite a good success record with children with dyslexia and dyspraxia who seem to cope well with a one-sided sport like fencing  (please discuss any specific questions or issues with us).
