Courses for beginners, improvers and children

Did you know you can try out fencing?

Learn to fence with us through a friendly and enjoyable short course,...stay on to join our improvers' class, and ultimately, join the club and enjoy fencing as a regular activity!

Adult courses are suitable for all ages...and that means ALL ages, you are never too old to start fencing.

Children generally start at 10+ with us (we might be able to point you to classes for younger children or you could look here).

We're happy to arrange for you to come along and try out a session with us, or watch a session in progress.  Call us to talk about fencing!  (NB  Wheelchair fencing is an excellent sport which we don't have the facility to offer at present.  We might be able to point you to a club that can help.)

Children's After-school Fencing Club

Our Children's group (start tbc) runs at Tiffin Boys' School Sport Centre.  This is a term-time activity, although we occasionally run weekend and holiday sessions, subject to demand.

The focus of these sessions is to prepare for the sport of fencing - and to develop skills which are vital to all sport and to long-term well-being: balance, coordination, agility, quickness for example - and to learn the basics of the sport as well as combat skills.  Fencing is a sport which requires discipline and focus, and these are invaluable skills in any and all walks of life.

Adult Beginners - places remaining..

We have 8 booked and 4 maybes for our next adult beginners' courses start Tuesday 29th May and 5th June (if affected by half-term).  Course run from 6.30 - 8.00 (allow a little time at end putting away kit).

Introductory course lasts 6 weeks.  Maximum of 16 places, a 1.5 to 2.00 hour class which incorporates a warm-up, active stretching, footwork (for fencing), and bladework exercises with partners to learn the basics.  At the end of most sessions, a period of freeplay to try out what you've learned, and test your combat skills!

Later in the course, you'll be introduced to fencing with electrical scoring equipment, the protocols of combat and competition for individuals and teams.

Adult Improvers

If you've already done some fencing, or have completed our adult beginners' course, you can join our  regular Tuesday evening sessions.  We have a good number of novice and intermediate fencers who will give you a good workout without overwhelming you.

You are also able to book individual lessons, and we'd highly recommend  joining in with our group footwork and warm-ups.

Private lessons

Without doubt, the fastest way to learn to fence (once you've mastered the basics), is by one-to-one lessons with a coach.

These lessons can be from 20 minutes to an hour plus, and can be shared by two or more people, at a venue to suit you.
